You've spent weeks planning the perfect outfits, found a photographer you love (wink wink) and your Senior Session is finally here! While you don't need to pack your entire bedroom, bringing a few key items can make your session smoother, more comfortable, and help you look your absolute best from start to finish. Whether it's a quick touch-up between locations or a backup pair of shoes for walking, these little essentials can make a big difference. Here are 10 things I always recommend my Seniors bring to their portrait session!

  1. A water bottle - Summer (and early Fall) sessions can be HOT, so staying hydrated is key to keeping you comfortable.
  2. Comfortable walking shoes - They may not go with your on-camera look, but they're crucial for keeping you comfortable while walking from location to location.
  3. Touch-Up Makeup - Powder, concealer, mascara, lipstick - whatever you typically wear- are great to have on hand in the event that a quick refresh is needed.
  4. Oil-Blotting Papers - Between the heat and the walking during sessions, it's not unusual for skin to get a little shiny as time goes on. These are perfect to have on hand for reducing shine without having to add heavier makeup.
  5. Accessories - Earrings, necklaces, rings, hats, sunglasses, etc. can take totally elevate your look. Organizing accessories in individual baggies and separated by outfit are an easy way to swap things out quickly and keep your session flowing on schedule.
  6. Hairbrush and/or comb - Let's face it, for outdoor sessions, wind happens! A quick brush between locations can make a hug difference.
  7. Wrinkle-release spray and/or lint roller - You've planned your outfits for weeks! Keep them looking fresh throughout the session; especially helpful if outfits have been folded in the car.
  8. Lip balm/gloss - Chapped lips are one of the easiest things to notice in close-up portraits. Thankfully, it's also a super easy fix!
  9. Bug spray - Season permitting this can really affect how much you're able to enjoy your session. The last thing you want is to be annoyed with constantly swatting at bugs, or worse, scratching at fresh mosquito bites. This is a no-brainer for sessions shot in parks and fields and really anything outside in the "golden hour" before sunset.
  10. Any meaningful props - Meaningful is definitely the name of the game here! Sports equipment, instruments, dance shoes, cap & gown, books, artwork - anything that represents who you are and tells your story!

When it's all said and done, the more prepared you are, the more relaxed you'll feel and that's where the magic happens.
